Omer was invited for coaching courses at Watford and Leyton Orient, but was snapped up at the age of 11 by Arsenal.
His first team debut was on 2nd November 1998, playing against Derby County in the League Cup. He also travelled to Kiev and Panathanaikos as substitute in the Champions League Cup. During the 1998/9 season, he went on loan to Dutch side Ado den Haag for 3 months. He scored 5 goals whilst there, and gained many new fans.
